Wineries
Located in the heart of the denomination we find our winery. In this Riojan place, it is where our wines are made with the greatest passion and dedication. The winery is integrated into the old buildings of the plot, respecting the materials of the time. Tradition and new techniques come together in our winery.
From the modern winemaking room that has temperature control, to our ageing room, where our wines rest in select French and American oak barrels. Our goal is to make wines that show our differentiated quality.
All this work is developed with the experience and extensive experience of more than 130 years of work that supports us.
Castillo de Javier
Cradle of San Francisco Javier, patron saint of Navarra. Castle of Javier, whose origins date back to the end of the 10th century, stands on living rock. Located in the “Baja Montaña” of Navarra, the place where the vineyards with which we make our wines are located, every year the popular pilgrimage known as “Javierada” takes place. Dignity and tradition that is reflected in the winemaking and essence of our wines.
This is a collection of wines that goes through the most representative varieties of our appellation Navarra vineyards. Our purpose is to make wine lovers of good wine as Castillo de Javier enjoy a little more if possible and come with us closer to the vines, our fountain of emotions.
Winemakers
Victor and David Fernández de Manzanos are the fifth generation of a family dedicated to wine´s world, more than 130 years committed body and soul to the cultivation of the vine and the elaboration of quality wines in DOCa Rioja, one of the most relevant appellations in the world.
The Fdez. De Manzanos brothers were born in the land of wine par excellence which have grown between vineyards, wineries and wines, currently are dedicated body and soul to develop the legacy received in 2010 by the previous 4 generations, from that year began a rigorous work on finding the most exclusive terroirs, selection of the best grapes, and overseeing every elaboration in order to achieve its consistent goal: “to share with us your passion, WINE.”
Vineyards
DOCa Rioja has a very particular climate and soils for the growth of the grape varieties from which the wines of great quality and personality are elaborated that distinguish us from the rest of the world appellations. Our vineyards are spread throughout the denomination distributed in different strategic points, this allows us to explore the qualities of each terroir and its singularities, in this way we can make a selection on each plot to produce each type of wine. In turn, the viticulture we practice is sustainable, always respecting the environment.
Terroir
The confluence of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean climate, smooth temperatures, regular rainfall and the air currents generated by our unique wind “Cierzo”, make up an excellent microclimate for growing grapes. In addition, we have different types of soil, among which the three best known predominate: calcareous clay, ferrous clay and alluvial.
All the above together with the different ages of the vines and trellises or bush constitute an ideal ecosystem for the optimal development of our vineyards.
